I recently sold my business. It was the product of years of hard work, commitment and personal sacrifice.
I built my property business from 15 managed properties to an established lettings and property sales agency, a market leader in three locations, with an amazing team of staff dealing with hundreds of customers a year.
There were highs, there were lows but I enjoyed the journey immensely, I learned A LOT, and it has shaped the person I am today.
As much as I enjoyed running my business and was good at it, increasingly in the last year or so I came to the realisation that this business was not my passion. So, having always been someone who acts, I decided to sell my business and pursue my true passion – helping others.
Here’s an interesting equation for you….
Vision x Structure = Impact
So, what does this mean? Well, in any successful business, you will find this marriage of ‘Vision’ with ‘Structure’.
Why do 8 out of 10 of businesses fail in their first year? Lack of passion? I doubt it. The energy, courage and drive it takes to start a business is huge!
I would bet these statistics come from a lack of planning, structures and systems that enable growth and stability.
Look at the equation above again. Simple multiplication dictates you can have high Vision, BUT if it is not multiplied by an equally high amount of Structure then your Impact will be low.
On the positive side, if the amounts of both are high, then a business can create enormous Impact.
If you are the ‘Vision’ in your business, then ‘Structure’ can be a multiplier. This is how I help others SUCCEED.

A little bit about ‘WHY’ and ‘HOW’ people…
In Simon Sinek’s incredible book “Start with Why” (blog post to follow!) he articulates the difference between WHY and HOW people.
Let me explain…
WHY Person: is the visionary, the passionate leader, the inspiration; they think about the future, dream, imagine and inspire. They are the energy that drives the business forward. Fuel for the engine. Without them the business would not exist.
HOW Person: is the strategic, focused, innovative, pragmatic facilitator; they implement the ‘Structure’ in the business. They create (and importantly maintain) the engine that uses the visionary ‘fuel’ to propel the business forward and create an impact in the world.
An example of this is Walt Disney. He was most certainly the ‘WHY-guy’ – imaginative, inspiring, a risk-taker and visionary. He dreamed BIG.
Roy, his brother, was the HOW-guy.
Eight years Walt’s senior, a brilliant financier and businessman, Roy turned Walt’s vision into a reality. He was instrumental in creating the empire that is Disney today. This is the power of HOW people. They can multiply a visionary’s passion, creating greater impact.
So, why am I telling you this?
I am a HOW person.
I get such a buzz from working with passionate people, using my skill set to multiply their Vision and aid their success.
